Description
Recessed luminaires or modular light fittings are widely used in commercial buildings where each ceiling is subject to fire regulations and where applicable the ceiling construction needs to be fire rated.
When a ceiling tile is replaced by a recessed luminaire, the integrity of the ceiling’s construction and its ability to perform in a fire are reduced significantly. To combat this a Recessed Luminaire Cover can be fitted for use in 30 and 60 minute fire rated ceilings.
Areas Of Use
The Luminaire Cover has been developed to provide maximum protection for ceilings where fire resistant tiles have been replaced by light fittings. The cover has been designed to allow for ease of fitting. It is self locating and cannot be fitted incorrectly. It incorporates ventilation slots to reduce any potential for heat build up in the light fitting.
In a fire situation the cover’s intumescent materials expand to fill all the slots with a fire resistant highly insulating char, preventing the fire from penetrating the ceiling. The cover also gives additional insulation protection to the ceiling void reducing the chance of ignition of accumulated dust and insulation. The cover is unaffected by moisture and is non toxic.
With the cover in place, the modular light fitting can be installed as normal.
